it's been a while...

monday night i ran with friends, picked another friend up, went to dinner and was home by 10. weston started with a cough three days earlier and from 7pm to 3am that night got exponentially worse. i took him to the ER at primary's around 330 that morning and they admitted him to the PICU around 10 am. it's now wednesday afternoon and here we are...

weston's breathing on the CPAP with a little sedation and is pretty much staying the same...which is a VERY GOOD THING. we want to keep him on the CPAP and try to move him back down to high flow and then regular oxygen. if he gets worse he'll have to be intubated and put on a ventilator. with heart babies that's especially significant because once they are on, they're buggers about getting off :)

they're also putting his feeding tube in today so he'll have nutrition. and he'll be getting a blood transfusion to increase his red blood cell count to aid in his oxygenation.

this really all has been a blessing in disguise. if he had been operated on and had already contracted RSV but hadn't been symptomatic, his recovery from the surgery would have been 10,000 times more difficult for his little body. so God hears prayers. and He knows what He's doing. and He blesses us in ways we never expect.

it turns out lulu does NOT have RSV but has asthma symptoms. the doctor was hesitant to say she has asthma. i guess they wait to diagnose it for sure until they've had a couple of episodes like hers. she's really cute when she does her breathing treatments. jon calls it her "pretty air". i think she likes having something that is hers and no one else's.

we feel peace. we feel your prayers. and we know that whatever happens we really will be okay. we also know that there are lots of other babies and kiddos much worse off than little westie. i pray for them too. we love you and will keep you updated.

  9. Prayers for you and yours.. God bless little Weston. I never knew what CPAP was until 12/1/09 when my son went on it after surgery and remained on it for 8 days-
Poor kids- but lucky for us they have the CPAP technology to keep those lungs open.
