the past 24 hours...

have been full of surprises. we found out yesterday that baby canlas is a little boy...weston scott to be exact. we couldn't be happier and the kiddos are already talking about their new baby brother.

we also found out that weston's little heart has some problems. the words "congenital heart defect" have now become part of our vernacular. long story short, his heart hasn't developed properly and one or more surgeries will be required after he's born. there are some other possible complications that we'll find out for sure in a couple of weeks, but as for now we're grateful that those things we do know about are fixable. as we were leaving today, the doctor said that there's no reason not to be 100% hopeful that he'll be fine.

this news has made us reflect on so many things...our gratitude for the health of our kiddos that are here already, the advancement of medicine in the past 40 years, the hope that the gospel brings, and the importance of family.

thanks so much to everyone that's already been so supportive. we love you and will keep you updated.

  1. Callie, I think about you often.

How wonderful you are having another son! I am so, so happy for you, and the name you chose is just darling.

I am sad to hear of the complications, but if there ever was a family who could handle any trial the Lord had in store for them, it would be you guys. It sounds like there are going to be difficult times coming your way, but I also know there will be wonderful times and experiences, too.

Congratulations, and good luck! I will be praying for you and little Weston Scott.

  5. Callie I know that the Lord will sustain both you and Jon, and bless little Weston Scott. He prepares a way for us to accomplish everything and I can already see that happening. It has been my feeling that this baby from the very start would bring much joy, happiness and blessings not only to you as parents, but to your children and anyone involved in the love and care of Weston. I have faith that the blessing will come countless and abounding, that the spirit will be strong and our knowledge increased in the gospel. We truely are blessed to have the gospel to give us hope, and joy. I love you each and keep all of you in my personal prayers daily. Love, Mom Canlas

  7. Hardly a week goes by that I'm not grateful for modern medicine. These are good times that we live in, it's great to hear that your dr is confident.

And I didn't know you were naming your fifth-born after my husband! How sweet...I'll let him know, he'll be honored.

  8. We will be sure to keep little Weston in our hearts and prayers. How thankful that they have found out these things before he even arrives so they can plan his care (and yours too!)

    Hugs and much love.

  9. Congrats on getting a little boy. I love the name. :) If you need the name of a FANTASTIC surgeon, I can give you the name of Brinley's that put in and took out her G-tube. He is in Primary Childrens and works one day at UVRMC too. He is Dr. Downy. I would trust him with anything. He is so good. He was willing to put the G-tube in Brinley even though she was so small (4 pounds) Other doctors wouldn't even consider it. Call me if you would like more information.

  10. Callie, congrats on another little boy. Isn't it amazing that one minute you are going in to find out the sex of the baby and then another second later your heart drops as they tell you there is a problem. Be grateful your baby's heart defect is fixable.

  12. I'm in the middle of one of this months book group books "the motherin me" it has short stories of different experinces being a Mother. One common theme is learning from our experiences. Lif is intersting at times. We don't know what lies ahead good or bad, but the only thing we can know is that we will continue to learn and most of the time it is the difficult experinces that we learn the most. Wishing your family the very best!
